Cabin Build Video

Well, he finally finished it! Not the cabin itself, but the video of him building it...
During our first winter here in Alaska, Pete found time to organize and edit the videos and photos that we captured as we made the first developments to our property throughout summer and fall of 2019. It took him a little while to figure out the video editing software and, in sticking to the DIY theme, he made the music himself!

Looking back at the pictures and videos, we have a hard time believing how far we've come in only a few months. It's been a ride. We hope you enjoy the video as it is a highly condensed view of the cabin build.

This is an amazing video. I'm impressed on how you improvised specific tools to get the job done with one person. Thank you for sharing.

Melissa and Pete, amazing video. Pete is definitely not afraid of hard work and is putting his engineering skills to good use, I'm amazed at how he self-taught himself to do the things I saw in that video. Great job!! Best wishes to your new family as you live your dream in Alaska.

That was an awesome video. Incredible that one man created a livable (all-be-it unfinished) home in just five months. Well done.

I ran across your channel just searching around. I must say you have done an incredible job, I am impressed with the tools you improvised, especially the rig for lifting the walls. Maybe some day you could show us how you built it. Wishing that you journey up north will be fulfilling for you and family. Thanks

Just watched your video on YouTube, I am very impressed the way you managed to build this cabin all by yourself.

What an awesome sped up version of start of build...to snow covered home with porch light and holiday wreath. And, the ingenuity to do it almost all alone was inspirational. People watch this and are as inspired as I was. Hope it's all your new family dreams it will be. What a cool journey to watch. Keep going!

Hi Pete and Melissa,

Nice to meet you online!

I have watched the cabin building video twice now, and I don't think I'm done yet. It's an amazing and impressive piece of work.

I'm dreaming of moving to AK, and possibly building a cabin myself. Though, moving to AK is more important than building sth myself.

Could you share a little about what kind of building background you had when you started building the cabin? It looks like you are an experienced builder. It would help to assess if I should even think in that direction. For one, I'm older, so I don't think I would have the physical strength to do some of the things you did.

Another thought is, if I ever had the money, to hire somebody like you as 'general contractor' and I'm a worker/apprentice who can do pretty much anything you tell me, but would not know how to do the whole thing myself. This would be cheaper and more customized than buying a cabin somebody else built, but more reliable than if I tried to do it by myself.

In any case, I admire (and envy :-)) your journey, and hope that I will be able to move to AK in the not too distant future.

Best of luck to you both!!
