Wood Shed Build Video

Watch this neat time lapse of the beautiful Alaskan Autumn as Pete builds our wood shed then fills it with firewood
Starting in September and finishing just before the freeze set in at the end of October, Pete turned a pile of spruce logs into an awesome little shed. This build was a lot of work, though, Pete says splitting all the wood to fill it was even more work. Not only does the video capture the full build process from peeling logs and digging foundation holes to putting the roof on and filling it with firewood, but it also catches some of the beautiful colors of the changing leaves as autumn breezes through Alaska.

The posts of the shed are spaced 10 ft X 10 ft, with a bit of overhang on the roof all around. Pete guesses he split and stacked about three or four cords of wood and had room for at least one, maybe two more. Over the winter, we will burn all of what we put away in this video and possibly a little more. We have plenty of other wood lying around which we can burn if needed, but it is very nice having this much wood free of ice and snow. Last year we did not have the luxury of keeping our firewood covered and we were constantly having to bring wood in ahead of time to thaw out.

Next summer, we will be able to chip away at refilling our wood supply at a more leisurely pace. We will also make sure to put away more than we need and to try to get after it a bit sooner in the season so the wood has adequate time to dry. Adding some siding next season will keep away any snow or rain which drifts in with the wind. Also, some siding on the cabin, please!
